Photos from New Orleans

Here's a few photos from New Orleans. Thanks to all who contributed, and a very special thanks to Georgia Chadwick and Jason Kruppa of the Law Library of Louisiana for sending us Jason's photos of the West Coast Reception. If you have photos to share, I'd be happy to add them. Send them to robindodge@sbcglobal.net.

Conference reports to follow in the next few days.

Enjoy!

Upcoming events for June & July.

PLEASE NOTE: THE GIA TOUR HAS BEEN POSTPONED. The date has changed, but the rest of the details are the same.

Clear your calendars and RSVP ASAP, because the SLA-SCC is going to the Gemological Institute of America Library in Carlsbad!! The tour is Friday, July 16 at 11:30am, with lunch to follow, right down the road at Karl Strauss.

Library Manager Paula Rucinski will be our host for what promises to be a fun and informative tour. From the GIA website:

The 8,000-square-foot facility contains a growing collection of more than 38,000 books, 70,000 photographic images, 1,000 videos, 300 international periodicals, and the renowned Cartier Rare Book Repository and Archives to provide “ready reference” in the fields of gemology and jewelry. Every day, GIA’s expert library staff answers questions from jewelers, gemologists, scientists and students all over the world.

Here's all the details:

5345 Armada Drive
Carlsbad, CA 92008

You must RSVP by Wednesday, July 14, so our names will be on file with Security. You must bring a photo ID, and will not be allowed to enter the building without it.

Parking is available in visitor spaces near the entrance. If you need help arranging a carpool, email me with your need or availability: rdodge@fidm.edu. I can take 3 passengers, and since I live way out in the northernmost part of LA County, I can pass through any part of LA south of me to pick up carpoolers. Email me if you'd like a ride.

Bring cash and change for your share of lunch. Karl Strauss will not split the check, and has asked that the gratuity be added to the bill up front.

RSVP as soon as you can! rdodge@fidm.edu

Also coming soon: joint happy hour with the UNT/CSUN student chapter, at Home Restaurant in Silverlake, July 1 at 5:30pm. Details will be posted here soon.

I hope to see you in Carlsbad, or maybe even on the ride down.
