Future Ready: An evening with Cindy Romaine

Please join us on May 12th for an evening with SLA President-Elect Cindy Romaine. Cindy will be presenting and leading a discussion about her "Future Ready" platform.

Cindy explains: "As resources and expectations shift in our industry, one key question that information professionals wrestle with is this: How can I position myself to be ‘essential’ in the new knowledge economy? In other words, what are the tools, techniques, and skills we need in order to optimally prepare ourselves in the evolving information landscape?

To start steering that conversation, I’ve been gathering information for several months -- and I’m getting a clearer picture. Please join me for an evening of lively discussion as we plot our way to a better future.

What might you get out of this meeting? Stories.

1. Stories about how people are adapting to the new landscape in creative ways.

2. Vignettes that show you new ways to be successful with your MLIS.

3. Techniques that members use to keep themselves up to date.

4. Insights about what does not work--even though you think it should!

I’ll lead a discussion about getting ourselves Future Ready, share a few ideas that I have, and listen to the possibilities you see for SLA as we go forward together."



Cindy Romaine is the principal of Romainiacs Intelligent Research, a consultancy focused on information intense projects—research, information flow, needs assessment, and authoritative sourcing—related to business needs. Cindy’s experience includes 16 years at Nike, Inc., where she was responsible for the strategic global collections for a world-class design community.

Cindy actively contributes to her professional community and has served as president of the Oregon chapter of SLA two times, on the Board of Directors for SLA, is the recipient the Center of Excellent award from SLA, was the chair of the Innovation Laboratory, and chaired the PR committee. Cindy is currently the President-Elect of SLA and working on making the association Future Ready.

Once you arrive on campus, check in at the security desk, and then come up to the 3rd floor. When you get off the elevators, head towards the lefthand hallway and go right. The library is straight ahead down the hallway. Dinner and networking will be held in the library conference room, and Cindy's presentation will be held on the 5th floor in room 525D.
